Our Worship Philosophy
"Our vision is to glorify God by boldly proclaiming His Word,
worshipping Him in Spirit and truth…"
Worship: Joyfully worship the sovereign God, the creator of the
universe, with reverence, awe, and joy, and with thanksgiving for our
salvation through Jesus Christ
-The Vision Statement of South Dayton
Presbyterian Church
In our worship gatherings on Sunday, we seek to honor God by reenacting,
week after week, the story of redemption. We recognize God for who He is
and for what He has done. We offer Him praise because He alone is
worthy. We acknowledge we are sinners and trust in God’s grace through
Jesus Christ. We
reflect on God’s Word that tells us of His enduring love for His people
and of His forgiveness of sins through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
We rejoice in the promise that His mercy endures forever. Because He
first loved us, we love Him and we offer our lives to Him in service
which the Bible tells us is our "reasonable act of worship". We long for
the day when we will meet Him in glory and be with Him for eternity.
For these reasons, in our worship times each week, we have times of
praise and adoration as well as confession. We hear from God’s Word as
it is read and preached. We bring tithes and offerings. We offer prayers
of praise and thanksgiving as well as bringing our cares to our Heavenly
Father. Thus, our worship is a dialogue between God and His people, and
music happens to be one of the main languages we use to communicate. It
is also an offering up of our gifts to the One who created them.
